Valencian Community Faces High Wildfire Risk This Summer: Heat, Dryness, and Winds Raise Alarm

Authorities in the Valencian Community have issued a high wildfire risk alert for several areas this summer due to a dangerous combo of extreme heat, dry conditions, and shifting winds. The Generalitat Valenciana and the Emergency Coordination Center (112 CV) warn that these factors dramatically increase the chances of forest fires, urging residents to be extra careful.

Where and Why the Risk Is High

The alert covers multiple comarcas across the provinces of València, Alicante, and Castellón. In València, both coastal and interior zones are affected — including Cullera, Torrent, Sueca, the city of València, Requena, Llíria, and Picassent. Alicante’s southern coast, with towns like Elche, Orihuela, and Torrevieja, is also on high alert. Meanwhile, in Castellón, the focus is on the interior north with places such as Morella, La Pobla de Benifassà, and Albocàsser.

Other areas remain at a low to medium risk for now, but the weather forecast doesn’t offer much relief. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts stable lows but rising highs, especially inland. Winds start light from the north on the southern coast and variable elsewhere, shifting eastward by afternoon — a pattern that complicates firefighting.

What Authorities Ask of Residents

The Generalitat emphasizes simple yet crucial preventive measures: no open burns, no discarding cigarette butts, and in general, acting responsibly. The smallest slip-up can trigger a major fire, threatening lives and the environment.

People are urged to immediately report any sign of smoke or fire by calling 112. Emergency services remain on high alert and ready to respond swiftly.

A Summer to Watch Closely

The combination of prolonged heat waves, dry terrains, and tricky winds sets a tinderbox situation across the Valencian Community. This summer, vigilance and caution are key. The authorities’ message is clear: protect the green and avoid actions that could ignite disaster.
