Gijón City Council Confirms Commitment to Cimadevilla Rehabilitation Plan Despite Loss of Feder Funds

Gijón City Council reaffirmed its plan to proceed with the rehabilitation of the historic Cimadevilla district despite the Ministry of Finance denying the Feder funds application. Jaime Fernández-Paíno, director general of Alcaldía y Proyectos de Ciudad de Gijón, explained that the ministry dismissed the city's appeal in just nine words, showing what they consider a lack of thorough and technical evaluation of the Integrated Rehabilitation Plan. Though the Feder funding would have accelerated the project, the local government assured that it will move forward using the city budget. The council expects the work to take longer without these funds but is determined to start the rehabilitation "as soon as possible." Cimadevilla is Gijón's historic center, and its restoration is a priority for local authorities despite the setback at the national level.
