Asturias strengthens its role in marine science with support from Fuensanta, an Asturian company that has donated empty bottles to aid the The.SHARK-RAY.map project led by the University of Oviedo. This initiative has been key in declaring Important Areas for Sharks and Rays (ISRAs) in the Cantabrian Sea, recognized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The identified zones near Avilés-Colunga and Bermeo are vital for the reproduction, feeding, and shelter of threatened shark and ray species. The donation of bottles helps preserve biological samples for research on these species’ presence and distribution.
